UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution calling for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors in Gaza.
Resolution 2712 calls for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip "for a sufficient number of days" to enable the full, rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access; to facilitate the continuous, sufficient and unhindered provision of essential goods and services throughout Gaza, including water, electricity, fuel, food, and medical supplies, as well as emergency repairs to essential infrastructure; and to enable urgent rescue and recovery efforts, including for missing children in damaged and destroyed buildings, and including the medical evacuation of sick or injured children and their caregivers. ROME -- Over 1,200 rescued migrants have arrived on the tiny island of Lampedusa in southern Italy in the last 26 hours, Italian authorities said on Wednesday.
The record number of migrant arrivals followed several rescue operations carried out by both Italian and European naval forces across the Strait of Sicily, the section of the Mediterranean Sea separating Italy from the coast of North Africa. (Italy-Migration-EU)

GAZA -- Paltel warned Wednesday noon that the Gaza Strip could lose all communications and internet services in a few hours as fuel is running out in the besieged enclave.

HARARE -- Twenty-two people were killed when a minibus collided head-on with a heavy truck Tuesday night near Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city, police confirmed Wednesday.
Two others were injured in the collision involving "a Toyota Quantum vehicle with 21 passengers on board" and "a DAF truck with one passenger on board" along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road, Zimbabwe Republic Police said on the X social media platform, previously known as Twitter.
