Namibia names 23-man squad for FIFA Series international friendlies

WINDHOEK, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Namibia national football team head coach Collin Benjamin Friday announced his travelling squad for the FIFA Series International Friendlies, which will be held between March 25 and 31.

Namibia will face Kuwait, Comoros, and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan will host all matches, with Namibia's first match against Kuwait scheduled for March 25, according to Benjamin.

The announced 23-man squad, which consists of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 10 midfielders, and two forwards, is mostly made up of locally based players, with a few foreign-based additions to add depth, Benjamin noted.

This invitational tournament, promoted by FIFA this year, will feature 48 teams competing in 12 groups of four in different host countries and regions.

"It's an international window, but most of our players based in Zimbabwe and Botswana have matches scheduled this weekend. In addition, due to the complexity of the unrest in parts of that region, travel arrangements have been affected, with flights taking longer than usual and some players only expected to arrive on match day or even later," said the coach.
